With the return of Lakers Media Day in California, franchise stars touched down in Los Angeles to take questions from the media. Lakers guard Austin Reaves handled plenty of questions during Monday’s interaction, but an unexpected scream from the back of the room caught him off guard.
Dressed in his Lakers jersey and white headband, Reaves was answering reporters when two loud screams came from an attendee in the audience. The 28-year-old guard stopped mid-sentence and looked toward the back of the room before smiling.
“That’s disturbing,” Reaves said, drawing laughs from the reporters before continuing with the session.

While he proceeded to answer the question, another scream was heard almost immediately.
“This is impossible,” he said with an annoyed expression
However, there was no confirmation about the actual reason behind the uncomfortable situation.
The moment came as Reaves prepares for his fifth NBA season. He remains part of the Lakers’ backcourt alongside Luka Dončić. Reaves played all 51 regular-season games in 2025-26, averaging 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 34.5 minutes per game. He shot 49% from the field and 36% from 3-point range.
His production took a dip during the playoffs. Reaves averaged 20.0 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in 6 games in the 2026 playoffs. However, now the Lakers are without LeBron James, who joined the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency. With James gone, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of Reaves and Doncic to lead the side with a new-looking structure.
The Los Angeles Lakers will begin their 2026-27 preseason schedule Sunday, October 5, against the Sacramento Kings at Acrisure Arena in Golden 1 Center. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
